The Environmental Education Association of Southern Africa (EEASA) is pleased to announce that its 30^th Annual Conference and Workshop will be held in South Africa from 11 – 14 September 2012, hosted by Rhodes University.

The EEASA 2012 Conference Theme is: “Environmental Learning, Agency and Social Change”.  Our aim is to reflect critically on environmental education’s contribution to local, regional and global challenges such as climate change, water scarcity, land degradation and the decline of ecosystems and species.  Critical questions to address during the conference include:

• To what extent do our current environmental education and training processes develop people’s/ societies’ potential to be agents of change? What are the associated challenges?
• What educational orientations, methods and materials can support change-oriented learning?
• What is the role of research in developing a dynamic field of EE?
• Where should we, as environmental educators, focus our efforts in the next 10 – 20 years?

The conference theme and its related questions will be addressed through sectoral streams such as Natural Resource Management (including agriculture); Biodiversity Conservation; Formal Schooling; Local and National Government; Higher Education & Training (including teacher education); Informal Learning (including workplace learning, youth programmes, faith-based organisation, public awareness etc.) and Inter-sectoral (cross-cutting) work.
